As a major source of antique samplers in the United Kingdom, Witney Antiques web site provides a selection of information and images on seventeenth century, eighteenth century and nineteenth century antique samplers, including band samplers and spot motif samplers. In our extensive stock can usually be found historic, genealogical and commemorative antique embroideries, Quaker samplers, map and darning samplers as well as and samplers from institutions, orphanage samplers, prison samplers, charity school and asylum samplers. A great diversity of design and materials are in evidence. Every item has been carefully conserved and is protected using anti UV glass.

A rare sampler by Mary Parris Aged 9 years 1845

Worked in coloured silks on a fine wool ground using a variety of stitching techniques.

Precise and symmetrically worked sampler in coloured silks on fine cream wool background.

Framed size: 58 x 59 cm.

Lucy Collins. 1845.

The unusual verse on this sampler is titled 'Inscription on a Sundial..' It has been worked on a fine cream wool ground with bright crewel wool thread.

Hannah Watts. Aged 11 years. Circa 1740

An unusually large decalogue sampler worked on unbleached linen with coloured silks and metallic thread.

Framed Size. 21 x 17 ins. 54 x 43 cm.

Clara Barber. Finished March 1833.

This delicately embroidered sampler was worked by fifteen year old Clara Barber of Middleton-with-Fordley, a small village in the county of Suffolk.
