Contact usA delicately worked colourful darning sampler consisting of a central floral bouquet tied with a knotted ribbon, trailing leafy border and eight darning exercises all displaying individual patterns. Worked on a very fine gauze ground. Contained in the original gilt frame.

A number of darning samplers which share common design elements are known to exist and may have originated in the same as yet unknown school or under the direction of the same school teacher. Worked on a very fine linen gauze in coloured silks. this sampler retains outstanding original colour and is in fine condition.

The striking black and white silk thread on a fine ground relates to almost identical known samplers worked at other Quaker establishments including amongst others Tewkesbury School. Framed to conservation standards behind UV protective glass.
